modelling cards

comp card (also called composite card, z card or sed card) is a marketing tool for actors and especially models. They serve as the latest and best of a model’s portfolio and are used as a business card; Having been around for many years as the essential marketing tool for a model and are likely to retain this standing because they are an inexpensive way to effectively and professionally showcase.

 Modelling composite card

Peter Marlowe in London invented models composites in 1965, which were then printed on paper to an A4 format. The format was changed in 1972 to an A5 card format, for filing purposes, and a few other companies started publishing cards for the model industry under different trade names since Peter Marlowe had registered the Trade Mark “Model Composite” in Europe and the USA. Among these was Sebastian Sed who traded under the name Sed Cards, which are sometimes mis-pronounced as Z (“Zed”) or Set cards. The publishing house of Marlowe Press stopped trading in 1990 and the words “models composites” and “comp cards” became generic within the model industry.

Modelling card design and printing

If you do not have your own photographs, then we can arrange  a photo shoot.
Some models and agents will like to have different looks and “situations” in the images on a comp card, therefore you may wish to book for a number of photo shoots at different locations and for different styles of photography. This can be costly when you consider hair and make-up and the photographers time in preparing your photo shoots and wardrobe for the cards.

We also offer portfolio’s If you are looking for a modelling portfolio we can also help with this, models are asked to show their book to clients and agents which shows the work that a model has done in their career. Your modelling portfolio is your key resource for obtaining modelling jobs and it is essential that the photos in it reflect only your best work. It is built up over a period of time and cannot be completed in a single modelling portfolio photo shoot.

We will organise a few different photo shoots based on the area of modelling you wish to work, we then create marketed images, such as a fashion shoot tear sheet or magazine styled images for your portfolio.

A word of Warning for new models!

Unfortunately many of the fake model agencies now use their staff to reply on non-modelling Internet forums such as Yahoo Answers and create fake model forums so independent advice is hard to find. They are not able to do this on the main Internet modelling sites such Model Mayhem or Purestorm as they are immediately spotted as scams.

Some fake model agencies are claiming that their shoots are free but that you need to pay up to £800 for the copyright ownership of the photos. This is untrue and is just an excuse to charge you for the photo shoot. You do not need to own the copyright of photos to use them in your portfolio. Most genuine professional photographers would never sell the copyright of their photos except for a very large fee, but will offer you the licence to use the photographs.
